Cloth Diapers

CLOTH DIAPERS

OK, so cloth diapers have changed a lot from even 7 years ago. I tried them with Milton when he was little (infant age) and I gave up after having to change him 3 times in a half an hour. That was just crazy and did not fit our lifestyle of being out of the home a lot. Coaching high school students does not lend to stopping every 10 min to change a diaper.

Well a friend that I have has been using Sun Baby Diapers for a while now and she has had no problems to include no leaks. So I ordered mine. and they finally came so I would like to share some photos with you.

Here is the red plaid. It is pictured with the right side snapped and the left side unsnapped. With all of these great snaps the diaper grown with your child almost eliminating the need to buy different sizes. They do have a size two but used more for the child who is not potty around the age of two. They feel great and are soft.
Inside you find the super soft lining and a pocket to put the absorbent insert. My friend says that she puts two in at night and it works great. The elastic area also seems nice with the fleece and soft cover material. No plastic diaper cover needed.
Here are the patterns that I have so far and I am looking forward to some more. There are lots of patterns to choose from. Of course there are a lot more girl patterns than boy. Oh well, That is how it is in stores too right?  So how much do these cost? One Dozen diapers with one dozen inserts costs $60. Now before you think this is crazy think about how much you spend on diapers every month. At least $60 if not a lot more. According to babyfit.com a person will spend$1820-$2730 on disposable diapers in 2 1/2 years compared to $615 on cloth diapers. How could it be that much cheaper? Lets see...
  • $225: Minimum price of cloth diaper layette with three-dozen diapers (enough to wash only two to three times per week), diaper covers and fasteners.
  • $390: Cost of washing and drying cloth diapers (270 loads of 24 diapers at $1.45 per load).
$1,205 to $2,115: Total savings if you cloth-diaper your baby.

How about our earth. Diapers make up 30% of the waste in our land fills. That is just crazy. So why not help out your wallet and the earth by trying out some cloth diapers. I cant wait to try mine on my new little one (arriving any day now).
